Program to build team cohesion lifts a state automobile club’s performance and ability to deliver a major work program.

Challenge
This state Royal Automobile Club provides services such as roadside assistance; vehicle, home and contents insurance; personal and car loans; driver's education and tourism to its 200,000+ members. In addition to consumer services, the club engages in consumer advocacy, particularly in the areas of road safety and transport sustainability.

In 2024, on of the groups within the organisation was under significant pressure to deliver a major program of work under tight timelines. Their success hinged on improving team cohesion. Zing & Co was engaged to design and oversee a program to develop and agree team behaviours for ongoing high performance and morale.
What Zing & Co did
Working in partnership with the senior business leader and leadership and development consultants, Zing & Co co-designed a series of workshops aimed to build team cohesion, shift and lift capability across the teams within the business group.

The process involved the administration of team diagnostics to set a foundational language for understanding levels of trust. Leveraging the diagnostic findings, we sought input from staff to shape the behaviours required to operate as a highly cohesive team and identified individual and collective behavioural shifts required to deliver the major program of work on their agenda.

To support the organisation to embed the behaviour change, a capability uplift session focussed on giving and receiving feedback was conducted with each team. Peer-group coaching following the capability uplift session, and role modelling practices cemented participants’ skills understanding.
